FAQ – How Are Domain Name Disputes Handled?

FAQs:

What do I do if I have a dispute over domain name  ownership?

ANSWER:
These disputes go before a non-profit entity called  “ICANN” (International Corporation for Assigned  Names and Numbers). ICANN has a set of rules and  regulations that govern domain names, their use and  any disputes arising from use of those domain names.  If a domain name is being infringed upon, ICANN has  set up an arbitration system to resolve the conflict. If the  arbitrator finds a domain name is being infringed upon,  the arbitrator can actually shut down the infringing  website and have the domain name transferred to a  rightful owner.
